Looking for something a little different to do in Marietta? You might be surprised to learn that East Cobb has its very own curling rink, and you don't need to be an Olympic athlete to give it a try!
If you've lived in East Cobb for any length of time, chances are you've made more than a few trips to Parkaire Landing. Between grocery shopping, grabbing dinner, and running errands along Johnson Ferry Road, it's one of those familiar spots we all seem to visit.
But tucked away in the shopping center at 4880 Lower Roswell Road is something you might never expect to find: a dedicated curling facility!
Yes, curling. The Olympic sport with the big granite stones, sweeping brushes, and players sliding gracefully across the ice.
And the best part? You can try it right here in East Cobb.
Meet the Peachtree Curling Association
The Peachtree Curling Association is a nonprofit organization that has been introducing Atlantans to curling since opening its dedicated East Cobb facility in 2015.
What makes this place particularly special is its history.
The facility was once part of a hockey rink, and when the owner decided to close one of the ice sheets, he offered the space and ice-making equipment to the curling association.
More than 50 volunteers came together to transform the rink into a dedicated curling facility. They insulated the space, modified the floor, and helped create a place where people of all experience levels could learn and enjoy the sport.
Today, the association offers beginner classes, leagues, clinics, and competitions.
I love discovering places like this in East Cobb. Even after years of living here, there's always something new to explore!
Want to Try Curling? Here's How!
One of the nicest things about the Peachtree Curling Association is that you don't need any experience to participate.
Their Curling 101 beginner class is designed for people who have never stepped onto a curling sheet.
For $40 per person, you'll spend approximately one hour learning the basics, including:
- How to deliver a curling stone
- The rules and terminology of the game
- How scoring works
- The fundamentals of playing on the ice
And here's a fun little detail: the association says that by the end of class, you'll be able to send a curling stone the entire 138-foot length of the ice. If you can't, they'll invite you back for another class at no charge!
That's a pretty good reason to give it a try.

What Should You Wear?
You won't need to invest in special curling equipment. The association provides everything you'll need for your lesson.
However, you will want to dress appropriately.
The rink is kept at approximately 45 degrees, so layers are a good idea. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily and soft-soled athletic shoes with good traction.
Gloves and a warm hat are also recommended.
Think comfortable winter afternoon, not a night out in Buckhead!
A Fun Date Night, Friends' Outing, or Family Activity
What I especially like about this activity is that it's something a little unexpected.
We're fortunate to have so many wonderful restaurants, parks, and activities around East Cobb and Marietta, but sometimes it's fun to do something completely different.
Curling could be a great idea for:
- A date night that's more memorable than dinner and a movie
- A group of friends looking for a new adventure
- Visiting family over Thanksgiving or Christmas
- A team-building activity
- Anyone who's watched curling during the Winter Olympics and thought, "I wonder if I could do that?"
And because the beginner sessions are only an hour long, you can easily make an evening of it.
Love It? You Can Join a Curling League!
If your first experience leaves you wanting more, the Peachtree Curling Association offers opportunities to continue learning.
Its Beginners League is designed to build on what you learned in Curling 101, introducing more advanced techniques, different types of shots, and sweeping strategies.
The advertised introductory league program is $99 for three classes.
For those ready for more regular competition, the association also offers organized leagues throughout the season.
You can explore the club's programs and membership information to learn more.
Who knows? You might discover a new favorite hobby right here in your own backyard.
What's Happening at Parkaire Landing?
While you're visiting, you'll probably notice that Parkaire Landing is undergoing some significant changes.
Kroger is in the middle of a reported $23 million expansion that will increase the grocery store from approximately 59,000 to 85,000 square feet.
The project includes expanded grocery departments, a Murray's cheese counter, a sushi kiosk, and a new 12-pump fuel center.
Construction is expected to continue into spring 2027, and Kroger plans to remain open throughout the renovation.
With portions of the parking lot affected, I would allow a little extra time to find parking before your curling class.
It's another example of how our established East Cobb shopping centers continue to evolve.
Make an Evening of It in East Cobb
One of the advantages of the curling club's location is that you have plenty of options nearby.
Altitude Trampoline Park
Located in the same shopping center at 4880 Lower Roswell Road, Altitude Trampoline Park offers another option for families looking to get out and have some fun.
Chin Chin Chen Asian Fusion
Just down Johnson Ferry Road at 3030 Johnson Ferry Road, Chin Chin Chen is a convenient choice for dinner or takeout after an evening on the ice.
TOUS les JOURS Bakery
Another exciting addition planned for Parkaire Landing is TOUS les JOURS, a French-Asian bakery known for its pastries, breads, cakes, and coffee.
The bakery is taking over the former Flying Biscuit space, giving East Cobb residents another spot to look forward to once it opens.
Whether you make it a date night, an afternoon with friends, or a family outing, there's plenty to enjoy in this little corner of East Cobb.
One More Reason I Love Living in East Cobb
One of the things I appreciate most about East Cobb is that there's always more to discover.
We have beautiful neighborhoods, wonderful local businesses, outdoor recreation, and a real sense of community. And every now and then, you find something completely unexpected, like a curling rink tucked behind the grocery store!
It's these little discoveries that make living here so enjoyable.
As a native Atlantan and longtime East Cobb resident, I love sharing the places, traditions, and local businesses that make our community special.
If you're new to the area, considering a move to East Cobb, or simply looking for something fun to do this weekend, I hope you'll enjoy exploring a little more of what our community has to offer.
And if you decide to give curling a try, I'd love to hear how it goes!
See you around East Cobb!
